Daton enables customers to effortlessly adjust their plans to meet changing business needs, offering options to upgrade or downgrade plans, and change billing cycles between monthly and annual billing.
In this article we will discuss about changing billing cycles.
Overview of Billing Cycle
Daton offers two billing cycles for the subscription plans:
Monthly Billing: Payments are made on a monthly basis, providing flexibility and easier cash flow management.
- Runs from the purchase date to the same date in the following month.
- If the billing cycle starts on 5th April 2024, then the next billing cycle will start on 5th May 2024.
- If the billing cycle starts on 31st March 2024, then the next billing cycle will start on 30th April 2024.
Annual Billing: Payments are made annually, with two months of free subscription included, making it a cost-effective choice for long-term commitments.
- Runs from the purchase date to the same date in the following year.
- If the billing cycle starts on 5th April 2024, then the next billing cycle will start on 5th April 2025.
Changing Your Billing Cycle
Users have the option to:
- Upgrade from a monthly billing cycle to an annual billing cycle.
- Downgrade from an annual billing cycle to a monthly billing cycle.
Note:
The details below apply specifically to users on Growth plans. To make changes to your Enterprise plan or for assistance with a credit or grace period for bill payments, please contact our sales team.
- Growth plan users can request a billing cycle change directly through their Daton account.
- Only one type of change can be requested at a time. This means users must choose between altering their billing cycle or modifying their subscription plan, but not both simultaneously.
- Billing cycles can be upgraded at any time during the subscription period, with changes taking effect immediately.
- For downgrades, the new billing cycle will take effect at the end of the current billing period.
Billing Cycle Upgrade (Monthly to Annual)
- Upgrades take effect immediately.
- A new invoice will be generated and must be paid on the same day.
- The new annual billing cycle starts on the upgrade date.
- The annual billing cycle lasts for twelve months from the upgrade date.
- You will receive 2 months free when you upgrade to the Annual plan.
- Any unused portion of the current monthly plan is prorated and credited to the next invoice of the annual plan.
Proration Calculation
Example: Given that you are on a $1000 monthly plan and the billing cycle start date is 1st of April, you decided to upgrade to annual billing cycle on 20th April.
The prorated amount will be calculated as follows:
Prorated amount = (Plan price for used up days of the monthly billing cycle) - Monthly plan price
Prorated amount = $(1000*20/30) -$1000 = $666.66 - $1000 = -$333.34
So while upgrading the billing cycle, $333.34 will be subtracted from your invoice for the annual plan.
Proration ensures customers are only charged for the plan they used during each portion of the billing cycle.
Billing Cycle Downgrade (Annual to Monthly)
- Changing the billing cycle will take effect at the start of the next cycle.
- Downgrade requests are scheduled and can be cancelled any time before the next cycle begins.
